DO NOT USE A SMARTPLUG with this model.
You need a working power outlet under your fireplace or nearby to plug our wifi switch into.
If you do not have a working outlet, then you can run a longer USB cable under your carpet/rug to the nearest outlet.
Steps 1 will be setting up the Wi-Fi, account and Alexa or Apple Homekit. We do this before connecting to your fireplace to make sure everything is working correctly and set up.
Step 2 will be connecting the configured relay to your fireplace.
Instructions:
Step 1: Download the eWelink App to your phone or tablet.
Create an account on the eWeLink App.
Configuring the relay to your Wi-Fi
OPTION 1 - Pairing mode, for Traditional routers
Option 2 - Compatibility Mode, for Mesh routers
OPTION 1 - Pairing mode (for mesh routers, use option 2)

Your PAIRING device (phone or tablet) must be connected to your 2.4ghz network. If you only use your 5.0 Ghz network, connect to the 2.4Ghz network before starting. This only applies if you separate your routers Wi-Fi signal.

Check the password you enter, an incorrect password will cause the app pairing to fail and time out. (the app defaults 1st letter to upper case)

-
Download the eWeLink App to your phone from the app store, create an account, click on Add and then Quick Pairing.
-
Remove top cover from the smart switch box and insert power connection.

-
The center light will blink (two fast blinks and one long blink) This is now in pairing mode. If you do not see this sequence, hold down button #1 (see image below for button 1) until you see sequence.
-
Wait while the App finds the relay, this may take several attempts but wait until the timer expires each time.

-
Wait until the app says the smart switch has been found.

-
You can now rename the smart switch, use "fireplace" or alternative name later.

-
The Wi-Fi relay switch is now connected and configured to your Wi-Fi.
You can manually turn on and off the switch by pressing Power icon in the eWelink app. (you cannot use your voice just yet)
When turned on, an additional red light comes on and you will hear a click, this is the relay switch changing from open to closed. The light should stay on until you turn it off. If it instantly turns off, the relay is in the incorrect mode. To change the mode click on the 3 Dots in the app (top right) . Scroll down to "inching mode or settings" (turn off)
This will not fix the switch from automatically turn off.
-
In order for you to use your voice to control the smart switch, connect the app to your Alexa App (or any smart home hub)

For Alexa, - open Alexa, click More, click skills, search eWeLink, Click eWeLink, Enable and log into account. Allow a few minutes after connecting your account for Amazon to sync devices.

See below for fireplace connection instructions.
1st set of instructions are for milivolt gas valves.

2nd set of instructions below are for traditional setup with wall switch and quick connectors.,

TROUBLESHOOTING.
If you have an issue, try a few simple steps first.

Did you test the replay switch before installing under your fireplace? If no, then disconnect everything and test manually using. Be very careful about the USB connection

Check power under Fireplace.
If fireplace lights as soon as you connect the wires, you have wired it incorrectly or the wires are touching each other.
