Not all Amazon Firesticks are the same.

We recommended the Amazon 4K MAX Firestick to get the most versatility and access the FULL External storage.

Older model firesticks will have limitations on transferring apps and/or using storage.

Many people buy this product after running out of space on their firesticks hoping to connect it and all will be OK. This unfortunately is not the best way to do it. You should remove all the data from the firestick first, then connect the SD card reader so you can start from new.  Factory resetting the firestick will remove all the data and apps and clean it up.

A few very important bits before you begin.

YOUR FIRESTICK MODEL maybe restricted to use or transfer files. The best and most current model firestick is the 4k MAX.

If you use a 1st Generation firestick from 2016, please get a new firestick as this will not work very well in todays streaming world.

If you have a 2nd gen firestick, you may want to think about upgrading it. as you will not be able to transfer apps on these models.

The 4K Max is very good and has less restrictions.

Connecting the the OTG cable and SD card.

First, connect the OTG cable without the SD card reader inserted.

The firestick will now boot as normal. â€‹

Once you see the home screen, insert a SD card (not included) into the SD CARD reader. we do not recommend SD cards larger than 125GB.

Please check your devices max capacity. Each firestick version or new release may change.

Now insert the SD Carder into the OTG cable (included). Look at the screen and you should see a message about an SD card being detected.

There are several options for you to do now.

You can format the SD card so the firestick can use some or part of the SD Card more freely. with 4K versions. go to settings, then Firestick, look for Stoarge option.

Formatting takes many minutes based on storage capacity. do not unplug it while formatting.

Once formatting is successful, you can "side-load" or download Apps to the SD card.

VERY IMPORTANT:

Not all apps can be downloaded to the SD CARD.

For older model firesticks like the 2nd Gen, you can use the SD card to install 3rd party apps or play a movie stored onto the SD card using an app like VLC or MX player. You cannot transfer apps to the external storage like you can the 4K Max.
